Choosing resolution and quality without bloating the file
- Resolution multiplies the page image: 2x (about 144 DPI) is a sensible default for on-screen presenting; go to 3x or 4x only if you'll project large or zoom into detail.
- Higher resolution means sharper slides and a bigger .pptx — every page is stored as an image, so the two scale together.
- Image quality sets the JPEG compression per page; 85% is a good balance, while dropping toward 50% saves size at the cost of visible artefacts on text edges.
- For a text-only PDF that will only be viewed on screen, a lower resolution and quality keeps the deck light; for print-bound or detailed pages, push both up.

Frequently asked questions about PDF to PowerPoint
Can I edit the text on the resulting slides?
No — each slide is a full-page image of the PDF page, so the text is baked into the picture and isn't selectable or editable. This is what keeps the layout 100% accurate. If you need editable text, the PDF's content has to be converted at the text level, which is a different, lossier kind of conversion.
What does the ‘Match page shape’ slide size do?
It gives each slide the same proportions as the PDF page it came from, so nothing is letterboxed — the best choice for mixed-orientation PDFs. The fixed 16:9 and 4:3 options instead centre each page on a standard canvas, adding bars where the proportions don't match.
How high should I set the resolution?
Higher resolution (up to 4x, roughly 288 DPI) makes crisper slides but a bigger file. 2x is a good default for on-screen presenting; go higher only if you'll project the deck large or zoom into fine detail, and lower if file size matters more than sharpness.
