Frequently asked questions
Why is the output WAV instead of MP3?
WAV (16-bit PCM) requires no codec license and is guaranteed lossless — perfect for trims you'll pass to another editor. If you need MP3 specifically, encode the WAV with any audio app afterwards.
Will my audio quality drop?
No. The trim is a sample-accurate slice of the decoded buffer, with a 5 ms equal-power fade at each end to prevent clicks.
Why edit audio in a browser instead of Audacity?
Audacity is more powerful and the right pick for multi-track editing, effects chains, or noise reduction. The browser-only Audio Trimmer is for the common quick case: drop a file, trim it, download. No install, works on phones, runs offline. For a 30-second trim before sharing a voice note, the browser path is faster.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Every SnapToolz tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Files are read locally, processed in memory, and the result is offered as a download. There is no backend.
Is everything free?
Yes — every tool in this category and on the entire site is free with no sign-up, no daily limit, and no watermark.
