What a drawn signature is — and what it legally isn't
A signature you draw and stamp here is a Simple Electronic Signature (SES): a visible mark indicating intent to agree. For a great many everyday documents — internal approvals, NDAs, school permission slips, a landlord countersigning a lease — that is genuinely enough, because the law in most places cares about demonstrable intent, not about ink. In the EU, the eIDAS Regulation explicitly states an electronic signature cannot be denied legal effect merely for being electronic. In the US, the ESIGN Act gives e-signatures the same standing as wet ink for most commercial agreements.
Where a drawn mark falls short is identity and tamper-evidence. It proves a shape was placed on a page; it does not prove who placed it, or that the document wasn't altered afterward. The moment a document is high-value or disputed, that gap matters.
When you need a certified eSign instead of a drawn one
- Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) — the eIDAS gold tier, backed by a government-vetted identity and a qualified certificate. It carries the same legal weight as a handwritten signature across the EU and is effectively mandatory for some notarial and cross-border acts.
- Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) — uniquely linked to the signer and able to detect later changes, but without the qualified certificate. The common middle ground for B2B contracts.
- Documents that often demand certified signing: property transfers, wills and trusts, many financial-services agreements, and anything where a regulator names a specific assurance level.
- For those, use a dedicated provider (DocuSign, Adobe Sign, a national eID scheme). A drawn stamp is the right tool for the low-stakes majority — not a substitute for QES where QES is required.
Placing a signature that survives scrutiny
Position on the signature line, not floating in the margin — a mark that overlaps the printed 'Signature:' field reads as deliberate; one parked in white space reads as an accident. Add the dated caption (name plus the date you signed) so the document carries its own provenance even after it's printed and re-scanned.
Two honest limitations to know. First, this stamps a picture of a signature onto the page — it flattens into the visible content and is no harder to copy than any image, so don't treat a stamped signature as a security feature. Second, if the PDF is an interactive form with real signature fields, you may prefer your PDF reader's form tools; this tool excels at flat documents and scans. Once signed, lock down the metadata with Edit PDF Metadata so the file doesn't broadcast your editing software and timestamps.

Is a drawn signature legally binding?
In many jurisdictions a visible drawn signature qualifies as an electronic signature, especially for low-risk documents. For regulated signatures (eIDAS QES, US-ESIGN with strict identity verification) you need a certified eSign provider.
Can I sign every page or just one?
Both. Choose ‘Last page only’, ‘First page only’, or ‘Every page’. The signature is placed at the same position on each page.
Can I add the date or my name under the signature?
